The Roaring 1920s - Fashion goes Sexy

I enjoy the Victorian era movies mainly because of the castles and fashion - corsets and huge skirts. That era gave women an elegant look and feel, even the peasants looked good.

The look was, however, restrictive to the women. It restricted them do certain things such as house keeping and raising kids, which was part of the custom back then.
As you know, time waits for no one, meaning that as time evolved, so did the roles of women in society as a whole.

The 1920s is said to be the decade where fashion entered the modern era. With the end of World War 1 and a rebellious liberal mentality, it was a time of celebration. And with celebration comes dancing. Dancing became a huge part of 1920s culture. It made women feel sexy, which made them want to look sexy. Women were showing their legs for the first time. Pleats, ruffles, furs, feathers, jewels and makeup were popular too. Women were really getting their footing in the 20s. Voting, smoking, dressing up, throwing out the girdle. It was all part of the revolution.

Now that I've given a bit of history, I can now share the looks. YaY.

low-waisted or straight dress such as a "tank" style or "slip" dresses characterised the style of that decade.

The 1920s were also called the Jazz Age

In doing my research I also learnt about the term "Flappers", which I honestly did not know of. Okay so I learnt that "Flapper"  in the 20s is a term for a young woman from the west whose appearance has a bob hair, wearing short skirts and liked jazz music.  Flapper in the 1920s known for their behaviour that is not acceptable to society at that time because flapper like to get drunk, smoke, have sex casually, and flapper is considered to have violated the norms of social and sexual norms.

This era also introduced the shorter hair. The birth of the "bob-cut" and "red-lips". I would have loved to be part of the revolutionary ladies. It must have taken guts to introduce something new, which was perceived as bad at the time.

So there you have it, the introduction of modern era fashion. I'll follow up with the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
